The first Finnish commemorative coin in 2020 is boldly minted in gold. The gold coin, celebrating the centennial of the University of Turku, was designed by Architect Petri Neuvonen. His victorious entry in the design competition was called Neuroverkko (Neural Network).

The University of Turku is the first university in the world to operate in Finnish only. It was founded in 1920 on donations; the necessary funding was provided over a period of three years by 22,040 donors.

The skilfully designed commemorative gold coin features a grid-like web symbolizing the interaction between universities and society. The design on the obverse is abstract, reminiscent of an explosion, and very effective against its featureless environment.

The coin is not included in any set, and orders are accepted in the order of arrival, so it’s a good idea to act now!
