Elections are an essential part of the modern system of democracy. The universal and equal right to vote has provided us, the people of Finland, with the prerequisites to influence social decision-making for more than 100 years.

This 2024 gold commemorative coin highlights the importance of free elections as the foundation of democracy.

The pattern on the value side of the gold coin symbolises citizens' active participation in the elections and, with that, building a common future through democratic means.

The community-based support structure consisting of stylised ballots on the obverse side of the coin symbolizes democracy, i.e. the power of the people. The illustrative theme of this commemorative coin was designed by artist Hannu Jasoni Veijalainen.

The gold coin is being released by resolution of Finland’s Ministry of Finance on 28/01/2024.
