Proof quality – mintage only 5,500 coins!

The Nature Conservation Act is one of the most important means of safeguarding Finland’s natural diversity. Its significance was already understood one hundred years ago.

Finland's first Nature Conservation Act, enacted in 1923, was ahead of its time and continues to enjoy a central role within the 100-year-old law.

The beetle (Tragosoma depsarium) depicted on the obverse side of the special euro coin reminds us of the importance of the Nature Conservation Act. The longhorn beetle is classified as a highly endangered species in Finland. Beetles work at various levels of the ecosystem and are thereby an important group in terms of the functioning of biodiversity as a whole.

Helsinki-based designer Sandra Prami has designed the illustrative theme.

  • Glassy proof quality valued by collectors
  • Uncirculated and wear-protected collector’s item
  • A historically low mintage – only 400,000 coins, of which 5,500 are of proof quality

The proof coins favoured by collectors are minted individually, with the highest quality dies. Many special work stages as well as manual labour are included in their manufacture. The coins are distinguished by their glass-like background, creating a beautiful foundation for the matte illustration.
