Social and health services as safeguards of citizens' well-being

The first silver commemorative coin of 2023

Finland’s social and healthcare services reform is one of the most significant administrative makeovers in the country’s history. From the beginning of 2023, the responsibility for organising social and health care as well as rescue operations was transferred to new welfare areas. The goal of this internationally unique innovation is to secure and further improve the well-being of Finland’s people.

This important theme is also represented on the 2023 commemorative coin.

The map of Finland on the obverse side of the commemorative coin is made up of a thread-like pattern. The unbroken line of the map motif symbolises the network of social and health services covering the entire country.

On the reverse side, there is a highly abstracted silhouette of a smiling citizen's face. The motif was designed by industrial art designer Dario Vidal.
