In 2024, we celebrate the cenetary of the birth of the beloved poet, children's author and academician Kirsi Kunnas. Born into a family of artists on December 14th, 1924, Kunnas successfully reformed poetry and took Finnish children's literature to a new level with her rhymes. Tumpkin, Sentimental Hedgehog and Mr Pii Poo, who are familiar from her classic stories, have left an unfading impression in the hearts of many readers.

· 92.5% silver and glassy proof quality valued by collectors

· Restricted maximum number of minted coins: only 1,400

The story tree on the reverse side of the commemorative coin represents Kunnas' extensive and diverse production of children's literature. The curved and circular shapes on the obverse side of the coin illustrate the verbal and vocal coherence of poems and stories. The spectacles refer to seeing, reading and writing, and therefore, metaphorically, to the significance of children's literature. The commemorative coin was designed by sculptor Erja Tielinen.

The Kirsi Kunnas 100 years – Children’s literature in Finland commemorative coin will be released by the decision of Finland’s Ministry of Finance on Kunnas' 100th birthday on 14/12/2024.
