Commemorative coin in honour of President Ahtisaari
Martti Ahtisaari was the first President of the Republic of Finland, in office between 1994 and 2000, to be elected by direct popular vote. Ahtisaari led Finland towards internationalism and brought our country into the European Union in 1995. Around the world, he is remembered as a resolver of major conflicts. In 2008, he was awarded the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for his life's work.

The obverse side of the commemorative coin bears a portrait of Martti Ahtisaari at the age he was when he started his term of office. The background of the reverse side is a Finnish field landscape. In the middle of the landscape, a book has been opened with pages depicting an urban built-up environment. The illustration symbolises the mandate given by the people to the President to carry out his duties. The theme of the image has been designed by Artist Tero Lounas.
The commemorative coin is being released by the decision of Finland’s Ministry of Finance on 10/11/2024.
