In 2024, total of three Finnish commemorative coins, two 2-euro special coins and five coin sets will be issued.

In 2024, both the presidential election and elections to the European Parliament will be held in Finland. The general elections were held in 2023. The municipal elections were arranged in 2021 and the first regional elections in 2022. The theme of the commemorative coin aims to highlight the importance of free elections as a foundation of modern democracy.

Gesellius, Lindgren, Saarinen – Finnish  architecture
The theme of the commemorative coin aims to highlight the history and unique qualities of Finnish architecture. The commemorative coin is also being released in recognition of architects Herman Gesellius, Armas Lindgren and Eliel Saarinen, and their mutually founded architectural office, Gesellius, Lindgren, Saarinen. Over the course of their careers, the architects designed several buildings, representing some of the most highly valued examples of Finnish construction history.

The theme of the commemorative coin also seeks to recognise the important role of children’s literature in developing the literacy of children. The theme is timely because, in 2024, a hundred years will have passed since the birth of Kirsi Kunnas. Kunnas is recognized as the pioneer of Finnish children’s literature.
